AIMA opens renewal portal for residence permits expiring in September and October

AIMA (Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo) has opened the Portal das Renovações for residence permits expiring in September and October 2026. You do not need to wait until your permit is about to expire — you can request renewal now.

How it works:

1. Go to the renewal portal (portal-renovacoes dot aima dot gov dot pt) and register; you will receive an access password by email.
2. Submit the renewal request — the system runs the required validations.
3. You receive a payment reference for the fee; pay within 24 hours.
4. After payment you receive a receipt and your application enters processing for issuance of the renewed permit.

Note: the automatic extensions (prorrogações automáticas) are being phased out — renewing on time through the portal matters.
