Portugal has a good healthcare system with both public (SNS) and private options. Most emigrants combine both for optimal care.

SNS (Serviço Nacional de Saúde):

• Limited English-speaking doctors outside major cities
• Access via NISS and Centro de Saúde

S1 form:

• For retirees with state pension from Netherlands
• Gives access to SNS without contribution
• Apply at CAK (Netherlands)

Private insurance:

• €50-€150/month
• No waiting times
• English-speaking doctors
• Coverage for specialists and hospital
